Golden Whip Stream Forest and Valley Walk

About this route

Golden Whip Stream reverses Zhangjiajie's usual perspective: instead of looking down from the summits, you walk among towering pillars. Walk a section and return the same way, or continue to Shui Rao Si Men once onward transport is confirmed. Allow for photos, rest and wet paths after rain; the distance depends on the section you choose.

Suggested sequence

1. Enter from the South Gate side and start walking along the designated Golden Whip Stream trail.
2. Set a turnaround point to suit your fitness. Keep food packed away and do not feed or approach macaques.
3. Before walking one way to Shui Rao Si Men, confirm exit connections and that day's shuttle. Otherwise, return along the same trail.

Transport and safety

Stone surfaces may be slippery after rain. Wear shoes with grip and bring water and rain gear. Do not enter the stream, leave open designated paths or continue mountain walking after dark.

Use only designated trails open that day. Timings are planning suggestions; actual duration depends on fitness, weather, queues and connections. Unsurveyed distances and elevation gain are not guaranteed.
